Work Related Injuries
What is Workers' Compensation?
Workers Compensation refers to benefits that cover an employee in the event of a work related illness or accident. These benefits cover the employee in the event they are not able to work for an extended period of time.
With only a few exceptions, the state of Florida requires all employers with four or more employees, excluding construction companies, to provide workers’ compensation insurance for all workers. Employers in the construction field with at least one employee must carry workers’ compensation. The majority of accidental injuries, diseases or illnesses contracted, accidents, and deaths occurring at the workplace are covered by workers’ compensation law in Florida.
Will my entire salary be paid by workers compensation?
No. Workers compensation will pay only a portion of your salary that is covered by Florida disability.
What other benefits will be paid under workers compensation?
In addition to disability benefits, you are entitled to medical benefits and vocational rehabilitation. Medical benefits will cover costs such as doctor bills and hospitalization. Vocational rehabilitation would include training to learn a new skill in the event your injury or illness prevents you from performing your trade.
Can I go to any doctor I want while under workers compensation?
No. You are required to choose one of the doctors covered under workers compensation benefits.
